London Character Guides Association Launches in Covent Garden
Immersive Costumed Walking Tours Arrive in London
Last week, Covent Garden became the stage for something entirely new in London tourism as the London Character Guides Association (LCGA) officially launched in the historic Piazza.
The cobbled streets, arches, and walkways were transformed into a living performance space as founding members of this emerging community of costumed character guides introduced their vision for a new kind of immersive walking tour experience in London.
This launch event marked the beginning of a movement that blends history, theatre, and storytelling into guided tours unlike anything currently available in the city.
A Roaming Photo Call Through Covent Garden
The launch featured a dynamic roaming photo call through Covent Garden, where guides in full costume engaged with visitors, locals, and tourists.
Throughout the Piazza and surrounding streets, the guides performed character interactions, posed for photographs, and brought spontaneous storytelling moments to life—turning everyday spaces into theatrical encounters.
This unique activation showcased the LCGA’s mission: to create walking tours that are not only informative, but fully immersive and entertaining.
Meet the Founding Character Guides
The LCGA launched with a cast of distinctive characters, each representing a different facet of London’s cultural identity:
Liza Too-Little – “The Queen of Covent Garden”
A legendary flower seller and local icon, Liza brings warmth, humour, and Covent Garden heritage to life.
Nancy – Victorian Barmaid and Lady of the Night
A character rooted in Victorian London, Nancy offers atmospheric storytelling from the city’s past.
Sandy Beaches – Eccentric Tour Guide
Unpredictable, witty, and theatrical, Sandy leads guests through London with humour and eccentric charm.
Kitty Slater – “Pearly Royalty”
Inspired by London’s Pearly tradition, Kitty celebrates working-class culture and the sparkle of historic London identity.
A New Generation of Walking Tours in London
The London Character Guides Association represents a new direction in cultural tourism—where traditional sightseeing is replaced with immersive, character-led storytelling experiences.
Unlike standard walking tours, LCGA experiences will feature:
Professional costumed character guides
Theatrical storytelling and historical interpretation
Immersive cultural and heritage experiences
Interactive walking tours across London’s most iconic locations
Unique themed tours inspired by history, fiction, and musical theatre
These experiences are designed to engage visitors emotionally, creatively, and intellectually.

The London Character Guides will officially begin offering public tours from June 2026.
All tours will be available through timesteptours.com, the official booking platform and home of the LCGA.
